If you haven't already, it's a good idea to check out Fort Benjamin Harrison State Park right about now. This 1,700-acre magnificent park is an ideal destination for hiking, jogging, horseback riding, fishing, golfing, biking ... just about whatever you'd want to do while staying outdoors as long as humanly possible in good weather.

And while you're at it, check your GPS coordinates once in a while. You may discover a few things to remind you that this is no ordinary park. Fort Ben, as locals typically call it, is home to a former Citizen's Military Training Camp, Civilian Conservation (NOT concentration) Corps camp, and a World War II prisoner of war camp.

You may also come across some mysterious structures, like this one with what looks like a massive chimney or some type of silo. Nature overtaking the remnants of the nation's most significant military efforts ... and Indiana's role in them.
